A nonprofit founded in 1989 by a group of south Asian women as a collaborative effort to end violence against women, Sakhi quickly grew and gained support. Today, it offers a plethora of programs and services for women, as well as events aimed at funding such services and relevant research.
Although the nonprofit offers multiple services to support individuals impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault, for example, its Women’s Health Initiative focuses on providing assistance to those who grapple with mental health issues, which sometimes stem from domestic abuse or other physical traumas. Sakhi endeavors to help women in need of treatment get it, thereby facilitating their recovery and restoring their wholeness, hopefulness, and confidence.
